OUR HISTORY

Founded in 2014  by an initiative led by sailing enthusiast Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, the sailing association elected its first interim executive.

Among the first members of the Association were the Bequia Youth Sailors, the Bequia Traditional Sailing Academy and the Canouan Gum Boat Club.

The first president was Eddie Brown of the Bequia Youth Sailors; vice-president was Albert Ollivierre of the Canouan Gum Boat Club; Samatha Lavia of the Bequia Traditional Sailing Academy was treasurer; and Louise Mitchell Joseph was the secretary.

After a few quiet years Louise Mitchell organised an AGM towards the end of 2020 and a new executive committee was elected.

To celebrate the inaugural SVGSA Christmas Regatta was organised at Blue Lagoon Marina, with over 35 young sailors taking part.

The Association is affiliated to World Sailing as a Member National Authority (MNA) known as VIN.

It is also affiliated to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee and National Sports Council.
